Q:
Is there a way to re-calibrate my Onix400 compass?
A:
In order to re calibrate your compass you will need to set the Onix400 on the “Nav” screen. With the GPS in one hand please hold the GPS tight and wave your arm in a figure eight. You are going rotate the unit in every direction; you are going to do this for approx. 20 seconds. Once finished hold the GPS parallel to the ground, and the compass will automatically re-calibrate itself.
Q:
Will I need to remove the batteries from the Onix when I have it connected to the PC or external power?
A:
When the Onix is attached to the PC or external power, it will recognize that it is receiving power from a source other then the batteries and will automatically switch to the external power source and will not use battery power. Leaving batteries in the unit while it is using external power will not damage the unit.
Q:
My Onix will not acquire satellites in my vehicle.
A:
You will first need to make sure that the GPS has a clear view of the sky through the windshield of your vehicle. The GPS will not be able to locate satellites through the roof of your vehicle. If the GPS can not locate satellites on the dash your vehicle is stationary position then it is possible that the windshield of your vehicle has a tinting that is blocking the GPS signal. Some vehicle manufactures place a tinting in the windshield to block UV, this can also block the low frequency signals such as GPS signal and the ezpass toll system. If you place the GPS unit outside of the vehicle and it acquires satellites but then will lose reception soon after it is placed on your dash, then more in likely you have a tinting in your vehicle.

Q:
I do not have a USB port on my computer, how do I interface my Onix with my computer?
A:
If you do not have a USB connection on your computer there are a few options. You can try a USB to serial converter cable. This cable will connect to a serial port on your PC and then convert the data from a serial format to a USB format. You will be able to find this cable at most electronics dealers. You will need to make sure that you get a converter cable and not just an adapter. The converter cable will come with a driver disk; each different brand will have its own drivers to create a virtual communications port that you will need to install to make the converter cable work. Another option is a PCMCIA adapter. This will be an adapter the will connect to the serial port on your computer and have a small box that will have a USB port on it. Again this option is available at most electronics dealers and will come with a driver disk. While a serial to USB converter and a PCMCIA adapter are options, they are not a 100% solution; the most stable and reliable connection is a direct USB connection to a USB port in the back of your PC.
